For the occasion, i have scanned the net for some gorgeous book shops! Here’s eight i think you may like the look of, i know i do:

Livraria Lello e Irmao (Portugal) This store was featured in the Harry Potter series! ⚡️

Polare, Maastricht, Holland So beautiful! Transformed from a 700 year old Catholic church to an ornate bookstore, it houses a massive three storey bookshelf with staircases, elevators and walkways.

El Ateneo Grand Splendid (Argentina) is a renovated movie theatre!  It uses the theatre boxes for reading rooms, has painted ceilings & crimson stage curtains. And apparently over a million people visit this bookstore every year. I can believe it!

Librairie Ptyx, Brussels, Belgium. I adore the facade of this store!

Barter Books, Alnwick, UK Back in ’91, Mary Manley opened a secondhand bookshop in an old train station – one that would be based on the swap system and called Barter Books. It hit the headlines in 2001, when the owner discovered an old World War II poster with the slogan, “Keep Calm and Carry On”, and the simple design has turned it into an international phenomenon.

Barter Books, Alnwick

Librería Acqua Alta (Venice, Italy) Look at this! It overlooks one of Venice’s famous canals and there are many hidden book-gems, but to find them you have to look inside boats, bathtubs and even a gondola😂. Owner: Luis Frizzio, is a 70 year old Venetian. I have to visit Venice, just to go here!

Shakespeare and Co (Paris, France) I obviously have to include this! Next to Notre Dame Cathedral, it’s apparently cramped and chaotic (especially when it is full of tourists), but incredibly seductive. Upstairs, they house travellers who work in the book shop for a few hours each day and below is a wishing well that many throw their coins into.

Leakey’s Bookshop (Inverness, Highlands) Established in 1979 the gorgeous store has been housed for the last 19 years in the old Gaelic Church (1793). It’s Scotland’s largest secondhand bookshop and has a wood burning fire (Around all those gorgeous books – i know what you’re thinking!) and a cute cafe.

There are obviously more out there, but these are my picks today. Where is a book store you’d love to visit, or you have and just have to shout about it?
